Topic: CNS - A Strategic Overview and Washington Update

A week later than usual, we are pleased to announce that this month's luncheon features two distinguished gentlemen from Cargo Network Services Corporation, the US arm of IATA.

Joining us will be Lionel Van Der Walt who will be talking CNS high-level strategy and overview. Fresh off the organization's very successful conference earlier this month in Orlando, Florida, CNS is actively engaged in working to promote air cargo and provide information and solutions for their member companies which include airlines, freight forwarders and ground handlers.

Mike White, Vice President, will provide an update on CNS' activities in Washington, DC on the issues of Security, Customs and Safety.

Mike and Lionel are both tremendous and knowledgable presenters on the issues which are impacting the air cargo community and the JFK air cargo community can benefit from their attendance and presentation.

About Lionel Van Der Walt:

Lionel van der Walt currently serves as Cargo Network Services’ President, where he leads the CNS team to deliver the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) cargo agenda in the United States. He works tirelessly to advocate for a secure, efficient, safe and sustainable U.S. cargo industry on behalf of the entire air cargo value chain.

Lionel has a passion for aviation and driving positive change both in the workplace and across the industry. He strongly supports increased stakeholder collaboration, attracting new talent to the industry and embracing diversity. He is also one of the leading advocates constantly working to educate governments and consumers as to the tremendous economic value of the aviation sector both globally and at a national level.

Lionel joined IATA in 2005 as Regional Country Manager Southern Africa, based in Johannesburg, where he headed all IATA's activities in that region. Since then he has been promoted to various IATA senior leadership roles both in Europe and in the United States.

About Mike White:

Mike is the Vice President of CNS-Cargo Network Services Corp. (An IATA Company) based in Washington, DC. He is a leader in the air cargo industry’s efforts for security, e-commerce, facilitation and government issues in North America. He serves on the TSA Aviation Security Advisory Committee working group on air cargo security, the Canada Border Services Agency North American Single Window Approach Working Group, the IATA Cargo Security Task Force and the Customs Commercial Operations Advisory Committee (COAC).

Government and industry officials call upon him frequently for CNS viewpoints, subject matter expertise and industry position on air cargo issues. Mr. White currently leads US industry efforts for development of standards for the Air Cargo Advance Screening (ACAS), the adoption by the TSA of the electronic consignment security declaration (eCSD), launch of the IATA e-commerce efforts in the United States and head of facilitation efforts for IATA in the US.

In 2011 he was selected as a Trade Ambassador by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Mr. White served as a senior representative for the trade during the development of the U.S. air cargo known shipper program, the indirect air carrier program and the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) program after the events of TWA flight 800 and 9-11.
